Auer was born on 10 June 1948 in Bad Ischl, Austria. After attending primary school in St. Gallen, Austria, and completing High School at BEA Graz-Liebenau, he studied medicine and psychology at Karl-Franzens-University Graz. During and after his training as a neurosurgeon at the dept. of Neurosurgery at Graz University Hospital, he undertook further professional training and research projects in Germany (M\u00fcnchen, K\u00f6ln, T\u00fcbingen), USA (Baltimore), Sweden (G\u00f6teborg, Lund), and Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Akita, among others). He established a laboratory for cerebral circulation research. His clinical specialisations include microsurgery, endoscopic and robot-assisted brain surgery. After his habilitation at Graz University, he became interim chairman and professor at his Graz department. In 1988, he emigrated to Germany, first to Hannover, then as full professor and chairman of the Neurosurgery dept. of Saarbr\u00fccken University Hospital in Homburg-Saar. He held guest professorships in Kolkata and Chandigarh, India, and Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. After retirement, he worked as a medical expert for malpractice-patients and as an author of books and texts on politics, political philosophy, and society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ludwig M.
